City of Chania

Chania is a beautiful city on the north shore of Crete is about 1 hour (59km) from Rethimnon and 2 1/2 hours (137km) from Iraklion on the National Road. It is easily accessible from Athens by three regular flights a day (45 minutes) during winter and four during summer. The International Airport of Chania, 11km outside the city on the Akrotiri, also has regular flights to other European countries. The city is not as busy as Iraklion and has direct access to the other major cities via the highway on the north side of the island.

Souda Port

The port of Souda is one of the most important natural harbors of the Mediterranean. Today one can visit the still existing Turkish settles, the fish harbor but most of all you can visit the Allied British Cemetery of Vlites Souda. 7 klms east of Souda you can reach kalami, a small village with a few traditional houses and panoramic view on the bay.

Kalives

Kalives it is a beautiful village by the sea in Souda bay. A small river crosses the area. The beach extending for 300 m just before the entrance of the village has a golden sand, and green-blue waters. Kalives is an ideal place for calm vacations by the sea, only 20 km away from Chania. Here you can find: Bank, Post office, hotels of all classes, many shops with souvenirs and super markets.

Almyrida

Almyrida is a small picturesque, settlement by the sea. Two sand-beaches extend to the east and to the west side of the settlement; both are ideal for swimming and a peaceful rest on top of the sea. In very close distance there are isolated, unknown, small beaches, as: Koutalas, exiting with its sea-caves. In Almyrida there are many hotels and villas for rent.

Plaka

Plaka is a small village on the top of the hill 2 km beyond Almyrida with a panoramic view to Souda bay. On the bay side you can find a small bay, ideal for a quite and idyllic swimming there are plenty hotels and apartments for rent.

Vamos

Vamos is the administrative centre of the vamos district, a village with traditional houses, some of which have been restored and already serve as a high standard tourist lodgings. Vamos is an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding hills where one can enjoy their reach flora and fauna.

Georgioupolis

Georgioupolis is a small town by the sea , built on the mouth of a lovely river. It has become an excellent resort, all green with narrow, beautiful alleys, shops with jewellery and artifacts, and many hotels, taverns and coffeshops. You can find here Bank, and Police Station.

Gavalohori

It is a tradional village with lovely stone houses.It was named after the royal family of Gavalades, who acquired it by casting a lot when Crete was divided into the 12 Byzantine princes in 1182. Five hundred metres from the village, one can see several of the renowned wells built during the time of Gavalades on a landscape of rare beauty. In Gavalohori there is a lovely folklore musem and a woman's co-op which has developed the fine art of handicrafts such as knitting, embroidery and lace-making. 

Kefalas

Situated to the northeast of Vamos, it is a wonderful traditional village with a rich presentation of local architecture. It owes its name to the first residents there, called Kephalades, the leaders of the Byzantine settlers sent to Crete in 1182 by Alexios Komninos. It is worthwhile to take a swim in the deep waters next to the steep coast northeast of the village.
